The Brazilian people have been using the acai berry for years due to its medicinal properties. The discovery of the acai berry by the western world has lead to extensive acai berry research. After the berry has been picked, it does not last longer than 24 hours.
This has been a great challenge to acai berry research. The antioxidant properties of the acai berry have been proven to be quite impressive compared to grapes and blue berries. For example, it has been found that blue berries only contain half the amount of antioxidants present in the acai berry.
The acai berry research has also found that this berry improves blood circulation and prevents atherosclerosis and cancer. It destroys leukemia cells meaning that it can greatly reduce the spread of leukemia. Other cancer cells apart from leukemia cells can also be destroyed by acai berry extracts. It is said that the berry does not destroy the cancer cells but rather causes them to self destroy. This mechanism of action makes it effective against Alzheimer’s disease and inflammation. Acai berry research has also found the antioxidants present in the berry to be effective against aging due to their ability to destroy free radicals.
Acai berry has been found to contain omega-6 and omega-9 fatty acids. At the same time it contains vitamins A, C and E making it useful for maintaining cardiovascular health. The berry has also been found to contain carbohydrates and also protein equivalent to that of an egg.
It has also been found to have high fiber content and a low glycemic index. However despite all this acai berry research, the United States FDA has not approved the acai berry since it cannot be grown within the United States. It would be great if the Brazilian government were to approve the acai berry since that is where it is grown.
